Employer Advisory Service

Our Employer Advisory Service (EAS) gives eligible small businesses free tailored written advice on pay and entitlement issues.

The EAS helps small business employers make informed decisions about employee entitlements and other workplace issues, including:

entitlements under the National Employment Standards
award provisions
other pay and employee entitlements.

The service assists employers in understanding and complying with pay and entitlement obligations under awards and the Fair Work Act.

Workplace health and safety

In Australia, the law says that businesses must do all they can to make sure the work done by workers does not hurt them or make them sick. Find out more at Workplace health and safety.

You can get help about workplace health and safety issues from your state or territory regulator. This includes for issues like bullying or harassment at work and workers compensation. Learn more about work health and safety laws and get help from:

Ending employment

There are rules and entitlements about ending employment. This includes issues like giving notice and final pay. Go to our Ending employment page to learn what rules might apply to you.

Information for visa holders

You have the same entitlements and protections under the Fair Work Act as other employees working in Australia.

If you’re a migrant worker in breach of your visa conditions, you can still seek help from us (the Fair Work Ombudsman) to receive your minimum entitlements. Find out more from our Visa holders and migrants page.

An employee can’t get into trouble or have their visa cancelled for contacting us. Only the Department of Home Affairs (Home Affairs) can grant, refuse or cancel visas.

New laws have been introduced to strengthen reporting protections for eligible visa holders experiencing workplace exploitation, allowing workers to seek help without fear of visa cancellation.

Visa holders can go to Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) , use the myVEVO app to check current visa details and conditions or contact the Department of Home Affairs for more help.
